CHARLIE'S DECHOX

I am giving up chocolate and sugary treats for one month to raise money for East Cheshire Hospice. Here you can find links to my JustGiving page and to East Cheshire Hospice's website.

Anyone who knows me knows that I have a rather large sweet tooth. I love chocolate biscuits, will have a bag of pick 'n' mix any time its offered, and regularly relax with a hot chocolate.

During the month of April 2025, at a time when shops will be inundated with chocolate bunnies and Easter eggs, I plan on giving chocolate up for an entire month.

All funds raised from this endeavour will go to East Cheshire Hospice.

What I'm Giving Up

It's Not Just Cocoa...

Chocolate Bars

Pastries

Cakes

Biscuits

Fizzy Drinks

Sweets

Chocolate Box Chocolates

Baked Goods

In other words, no Nutella, no pain-au-chocolat, no bottles of coke, no meal deal chocolate bar, no dipping into whatever tasty thing is available in the office... Nothing sweet until May 1st!

Why East Cheshire Hospice

During my mum Heather's challenging journey with sarcomas, a rare form of cancer that affects both bone and soft tissue, East Cheshire Hospice truly became a beacon of hope for our family. Their compassionate support was invaluable; they not only helped with essential tasks like housekeeping and meal preparation but also provided a sense of community through programs like the Sunflower Club, where Mum could connect with others facing similar challenges.

The hospice has 15 beds available for patients, offers accommodations for family members, and ensures that everyone has access to meals and support during difficult visiting times.

(On Mums final day, when we were there from about 3am, they kept us topped up on toast and tea, as well as lunch and dinner)

It’s important to note that only 21% of the hospice’s funding comes from the government, highlighting how crucial it is for them receive support from the local community: They need to raise an impressive £9,362 each day to keep their services running smoothly.

I feel a strong desire to give back to the hospice that provided us with incredible assistance and comfort during Mum's final year.

The hospice serves the communities of Buxton, Congleton, High Legh, High Peak, Knutsford, Macclesfield, Poynton, Wilmslow and everywhere in between.

This is a population of roughly 400,000 people

Services are delivered by a dedicated staff of over 100 people, and volunteer team of over 300.

There are onsite occupational therapists, physiotherapist, and a lymphoedema specialist, spiritual support, and an in house catering team.

The hospice offers pre and post bereavement counselling for adults and children, and the Sunflower centre which offers Art Therapy

There are around 15 Hospice led events throughout the year, including choir concerts, Christmas tree collection, marathons, and star light walks.

In recent years there have been treks across Iceland and up Snowdon.
